Day 1: Barcelona (THU)
Welcome to Barcelona, Spain! Upon arrival, a transfer will be provided.
Your driver will be waiting for you at arrival hall to take you to your hotel and provide all the local information of the area you will be staying at and how to get around to the historic city centre.
You can leave your baggage with concierge whilst you can spend the rest of the morning/afternoon exploring the local area or sit back and enjoy a well-earned drink at the hotel's lounge before check in. (Normal Check in Time is 3:00pm)
Day 2: Barcelona (FRI)
Following breakfast we will get to know Barcelona, an impressive city right on the Mediterranean Sea.
We will meet our local expert for a fantastic sightseeing city tour of the historic central area with its Gothic neighbourhood dating back to the Middle Ages. We will also visit the area where the Olympic Games took place where it will be possible to see and photograph La Sagrada Familia Basilica; the masterpiece designed by the architect Gaudi. Subsequently, we include the entry ticket to “Poble Espanyol” (meaning “Spanish Village”). This open air architectural museum is situated in one of the most emblematic areas of Barcelona.
Be delighted by the best Spanish craftsmanship and discover the architectural styles, traditions and folklore of the different communities in Spain. You will have some free time to explore the city on your own.
In the evening, transfer service will be provided to the most vivid street in Barcelona, Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya area for dinner (own expense). Enjoy the bustling life of Barcelona before returning back to hotel.
Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia (SAT), 375km
Day 3: Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia (SAT), 375km
After breakfast we leave Barcelona and travel south along the Mediterranean and will make a special stop at the popular town of Peniscola which is superbly surrounded by the sea. The entrance to the old town is through one of two gateways through it's medieval walls. After a short introduction given by our guide you can explore the old town and it's castle, fishing port and beaches.
Afterwards you will travel to the third largest Spanish city Valencia where you will see the most important modern tourist site in Valencia "The City of Arts and Sciences". Next we will walk through the historic city and our guide will accompany us to the Cathedral where they claim the Holy Grail from which Christ sipped during the Last Supper.
In the evening, you will be transferred to the Plaza de Toros area for dinner (own expense) and can enjoy the arena followed by return transport back to the hotel.
Valencia - Alicante - Caravaca de la Cruz - Granada (SUN), 536km
Day 4: Valencia - Alicante - Caravaca de la Cruz - Granada (SUN), 536km
After breakfast we continue south through the Valencia Community towards Alicante one of the country's most influenced by tourism cities thanks to its nearby airport and resorts along the Spanish Coast. Time for a stroll along this pleasant city by the sea.
In the afternoon we make our way to the Murcia Region where we will visit Caravaca De La Cruz, a town considered by the Catholic Church as one of the five holy cities in the world which also subsequently its church holds a relic of Christ's Cross. We will include a ride up to the historic areas on the tourist train.
Shortly after we shall carry on along an attractive scenic road to Andalusia where we will arrive at the end of the day in Granada.
Day 5: Granada (MON)
After breakfast, join a local guide to tour Granada’s famed Moorish palace, the Alhambra Palace (entrance included), a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site.
Spend the free afternoon to see the Cathedral with the sepulchre of the Catholic Kings.
Later, enjoy an evening transfer to the Plaza de Gracia where restaurants mix with local cultural flavor to create an unforgettable night. After dinner (own expense), why not attend an optional activity – a flamenco dance show and the traditional neighbourhood of Sacramonte.
Note: in the Alhambra complex, the Nazari palaces allow a limited number of people in at a time. If in the event that we are not able to the visit the area of Alhambra, a visit to the Alcázares will be included in Seville (which have a similar architecture and features).
Granada - Asilah - Rabat (TUE), 530km
Day 6: Granada - Asilah - Rabat (TUE), 530km
After breakfast we leave Europe for Africa. We journey through the Costa del Sol and will board a modern ferry to cross the Straits of Gibraltar either from Algeciras or Tarifa.
We arrive in Asilah (Morocco) a city with beautiful landscapes. This picturesque city is a popular seaside town on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and is the favoured holiday spot for Moroccans. During the summer months the town's sleepy streets and abandoned beaches are transformed into one of the country's hottest holiday spots.
Shortly after lunch we will continue towards Rabat the capital and "Royal City" where we will be welcomed by a buffet dinner in the evening.
Note: The coach does not make the crossing from Spain to Morocco so passengers must carry their luggage.
Rabat - Casablanca - Marrakesh (WED), 350km
Day 7: Rabat - Casablanca - Marrakesh (WED), 350km
After breakfast we shall take a guided scenic tour of Rabat calling at the immense Royal Palace, the Mohammed V Mausoleum and the mighty Kasbah of the Oudayas.
At midday we depart for Casablanca where we shall have a short informative tour of the city. This is the largest city in Morocco and one of the largest financial centres on the continent. The city tour includes the outside of the great Hassan II Mosque which is one of the most important in the Arab world.
We then continue towards Marrakesh. After arriving at the hotel you will be able to experience a traditional Kalesa (horse or donkey carriage) ride up to the famous Jamaa el Fna square. Buffet Dinner included
Day 8: Marrakesh (THU)
Start the day with a guided tour of the "Red City" that gave the country its name. You will visit the Saadian Tombs and El Bahia Palace (Admission included). Free time to relax at the pool or to discover a famous souk (local market). Today lunch is included and afterwards feel free to visit the popular Djemaa el Fna or Koutoubia Mosque.
In the evening you can experience a Fantasia dinner and cultural show (optional).
Marrakesh - Ait Benhadou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades (FRI), 300km
Day 9: Marrakesh - Ait Benhadou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne Dades (FRI), 300km
After breakfast as we journey across the Atlas Mountains whilst gazing out at the snow capped mountains we say goodbye to Marrakesh. We interrupt the journey to stop at the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, a place where several films have been filmed.
At this point of our trip our route passes through the so-called biblical landscapes.
We make a short stop in Ouarzazate known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert with its impressive Taourirt Kasbah.
We then continue towards the valley of roses Boumalne Dades and arrive in the evening. Dinner is included.
Note: On very rare occasions (during winter) the roads may be closed due to snowdrifts. If necessary, days 5-7 will be rescheduled according to our alternative itinerary. (Whether we can visit the Sahara or not will depend on road access)
Overnight: Boumalne Dades
Boumalne Dades - Todgha - Khorbat - Erfoud (SAT), 280km
Day 10: Boumalne Dades - Todgha - Khorbat - Erfoud (SAT), 280km
A journey full of excitement in the Sahara Desert: The Valley of the Kasbahs; river valleys containing thousands of palm trees; plains of stones followed by oasis and abode villages, powerful fortresses defending the thoroughfares. We visit the stunningly magnificent Todgha Gorge. On the way, we shall call at a small town built from abode next to Khorbat, visitors will be able to learn about the desert community, which is supported by the Europamundo Foundation.
We continue towards Erfoud where lunch is included. Anyone who wishes can go on a field trip to visit the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert to experience dusk among the dunes.
Note: Sometimes access to Khorbat is not possible due to weather conditions which may involve flooding of the river.
Erfoud - Fes (SUN), 425km
Day 11: Erfoud - Fes (SUN), 425km
After breakfast in the early morning our trip leaves the Sahara through the mountains and cross nomadic areas situated in high and cold landscapes. In the afternoon, Fes awaits us where we will have leisure time to explore the medieval architecture, vibrant souks and the old world atmosphere. The old city of Fez (Fez El Bali) is the world's largest car-free urban space and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Dinner is included.
Fes - Tangier (MON), 425km
Day 12: Fes - Tangier (MON), 425km
After breakfast we will have a guided scenic city tour of Fes. We conclude the visit by including lunch in an ancient palace in the Medina district.
At the beginning of the afternoon we shall depart towards the north of Morocco where we will arrive in Tangier in the middle of the afternoon. Free time or relax before you head off for dinner (included)
Tangier - Seville (TUE), 315km
Day 13: Tangier - Seville (TUE), 315km
After breakfast you will have a chance for some last minute shopping before we return to Spain by ferry.
We will arrive either in Algeciras or Tarifa and will continue towards Seville.
Arrive in Seville in the evening and tonight dinner will be included.
Note: The coach does not make the crossing from Morocco to Spain so passengers must carry their luggage.
Day 14: Seville (WED)
After breakfast at the hotel we begin our discovery of Seville, one of the gems of Andalusia. This atmospheric city is a delight to explore! Enjoy a guided walking tour featuring the Cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir river, popular neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana and also the beautiful Plaza de España.
Enjoy leisure time straight afterwards and in the evening we will go to the historic city centre area (Calle Alfonso XII) where many different restaurants can be found.
Seville - Palos de la Frontera - Mertola - Evora - Lisbon (THU), 495km
Day 15: Seville - Palos de la Frontera - Mertola - Evora - Lisbon (THU), 495km
After breakfast we shall leave Seville and in the province of Huelva we travel to Palos de la Frontera. Here we shall include entrance to the Caravels Museum. This is where Christopher Columbus set sail on 3 August 1492 for America.
We will also visit the Monastery of La Rabida (entrance included) which is declared a World Heritage site, a Franciscan monastery strongly linked to the history of the discovery.
Next we cross to Mertola (Portugal) with a stop in this ancient Muslim city with it's present church previously a mosque. Here you will find time to have some lunch before we head through the white villages to Evora. This city is also declared a World Heritage Site with is wide streets, renaissance policies and its cathedral. We will include entrance to the impressive Chapel of Bones built with 5000 skeletons.
We shall then head to Lisbon where we will arrive at the end of the day.
Day 16: Lisbon (FRI)
Shortly after breakfast we will have a sightseeing tour with a local guide in Lisbon. Here we shall visit traditional neighbourhoods, the Belem district which is the birthplace of the great Portuguese navigators who set sail across the oceans in the Fifteenth Century. We will get to explore the Monument to the Discoveries, Belem Tower and enter the beautiful Jeronimos Monastery a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the Belem neighbourhood we invite all our travellers to try a "pastel de Belem" (Belem Cake) an exquisite local delicacy.
The afternoon is free so that you can explore this great city independently.
At the end of the afternoon we ascend on the funicular (admission included) and reach the famous Barrio Alto (upper district) where you can find a selection of your favourite restaurants.
Lisbon - Fatima - Plasencia - Madrid (SAT), 695km
Day 17: Lisbon - Fatima - Plasencia - Madrid (SAT), 695km
We leave Lisbon after breakfast and travel north of Portugal to Fatima, an important sanctuary and Catholic pilgrimage site.
We will continue on our way through the green lands of the centre, passing into Spain and over grasslands we cross the North of Extremadura and will arrive in Plasencia shortly before lunch. Here we shall have a quick stroll in this historic walled city with its main square and cathedral and will continue towards Madrid.
We shall arrive in Madrid at the end of the day.
Day 18: Madrid (SUN)
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then begin your discovery of Madrid with your local specialist which showcases the city’s vibrant centre, the beautiful Plaza Mayor (Main Square), its broad and magnificent avenues and its many fountains. You’ll have a chance to visit the landmark sights that includes the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas (entrance included) and followed by a walking tour of the beautiful Retiro Park enhanced by the lake and Crystal Palace. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. If you wish why not try the optional visit to the Royal Palace (entrance not included). In the evening, we provide transfer to the Plaza de Oriente in the historic centre of Madrid where you will have time for dinner (own expense).
Day 19: Madrid (MON)
